Real Housewives of Beverly Hills Legal News
Kim Richards, the embattled star of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, is now facing another lawsuit concerning the biting activity of her pit bull, Kingsley (see photo on left from eonline). In this latest legal fight, plaintiff Kelly Crossley claims that she suffered “grave bodily injuries” and seeks unspecified damages as a result of being bitten while in Kim’s home. Kim is apparently defending the case on the basis that she is not the dog’s true owner, that Kingsley is actually owned by her ex-husband Monty.
This reminds me of the famous “Does Your Dog Bite?” sketch from the old Pink Panther movies. For those of you who are too young to know what I’m talking about, please check out this short clip:
Sadly, Kingsley is not furthering the public relations efforts of the pit bull breed. This is the fourth alleged attack at the mouth of Kingsley. Other alleged victims include Kim’s friend, 80-year-old Kay Rozario, Kyle Richard’ daughter Alexia, and the dog’s trainer, David Utter, who all claim to have been bitten by the dog.
If Kim is found liable, she will, of course, have to open up her checkbook and pay for damages. More, Kingsley could be put down, though this would take a court order. Courts are generally reluctant to order an animal to be destroyed, but factors that weigh in favor of this extreme action include frequency, number, and severity of prior attacks. The courts do have a duty to balance the rights of individuals with protecting people from dog attacks, though at this point I believe the world is on notice: Do NOT go visit Kim Richards unless you are wearing full dog-protection gear!
LL Cool J Legal News
In other legal news, Jonathan Kirby, the alleged burglar who broke into the home of rapper/mogul LL Cool J, and who is facing felony 1st degree burglary charges, has reportedly been granted a continuance at the request of his criminal defense lawyers. It’s now reported that the case has been put over until September, 2015. Kirby, who already suffered a beat-down at the hands of LL when he was discovered in the star’s home, is facing a possible term of life in prison under California’s notorious “three strikes” law. While he was homeless at the time of the break-in, absent some truly great lawyering, the one thing Kirby will no longer have to worry about is a roof over his head. That will be provided courtesy of the Department of Corrections, if prosecutors have their way.
